Newer homes, different problems
Rockford is a small city of 6,313 people (Census estimate, July 2025) in northern Kent County. Most window requests also come from the townships around it: Plainfield Charter Township, with 34,770 residents, and Algoma Township, with 12,454.
The city's median home was built in 1992, and 35% of its homes went up in 2000 or later, according to the 2020 to 2024 American Community Survey. The 2000s alone account for 24%, the 1990s 18% and the 1970s 17%. Plainfield Township is a bit older, with a 1985 median. Owner-occupancy runs 77.2% in the city and 87.8% in Plainfield.
So the typical Rockford job is not an antique wood window. It is a 20-year-old vinyl unit with a failed seal, a sash that will not stay up, or a big great-room window that frosts at the edges every January.
